Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

I’m confused.. why is this book so popular?

God, i have so much to say... possible spoilers ahead.

First of all, I did liked the concept, a complete psychopath who is an absolute genius or something, who completely manipulates her husband .. my problem is with the execution. This could’ve been more!! This could’ve been terrifying and tense but it wasn’t.. this is what bothers me the most. Or maybe it’s case of having unrealistic expectations?

I wasn’t captivated, I couldn’t care less about these characters. I don’t really mind flawed and unlikable characters, I actually enjoy when a book explores these types of characters, but they weren’t interesting to me.. there motivations were but there personalities weren’t. What I want from a thriller book is to keep my level of curiosity peaked at all times especially during the few last chapters but instead I kept thinking “Gah!! just end already!!!!”.

And the plot twists were meh.. I wasn’t shocked nor surprised at any point, I kinda had a feeling that it was going to end the way it did which I actually liked.. dark and unresolved.. I kinda like that but again the execution and i’m not a fan of the writing style as well.

Also, Amy is supposed to be calculated, smart, patient, determined and some who plans a head and knows exactly what she’s doing. I mean the lengths she went to in order to execute her plan is jaw dropping (i did love that part) yet she makes very stupid mistakes a couple of times and it’s so out of character it pissed me off!! It just the author trying to add more drama to the plot and end her chapters with AND HOLY SHIT THIS HAPPENED.. it was just.. no.

This book was just way too long.. i’m so glad I’m finally done with it.
