The Tiger and the Wolf by Adrian Tchaikovsky

4.0

Not a bad read at all. It was one of those books where you want to rush to the end to see what happens.

The world is based around Iron Age shape shifters. That may sound a little out there, but Tchaikovsky really put a lot of work into world building. Each tribe has it's own cultures and it's own rituals that gives the concept a lot of depth and makes it very easy to see how it all works together.

Our main character, Maniye, is the daughter of the chief of the Wolf clan, but she is an outcast and hated by both her father and the tribe's priest and the only reason she is alive is her father thinks he can use her to destroy the Tiger clan. On top of the abuse and hatred she has a secret that is threatening to drive her completely insane.

It's a brutal and rough world and she ends up in the thick of it with almost every tribe at her back. The only part that I disliked was the middle felt like we were running in circles a few times. Outside of that, can't wait to read the next book!
