Interior Chinatown
by Charles Yu
Really interesting format that speaks to the idea of societal scripts and roles. I think the message of the book is good for most Asian Americans and other Americans, especially since it was published in 2020. If you’ve read a lot of Asian am lit or have a background in Asian am studies/ethnic studies/sociology might be a little redundant. Message was very heavy handed but considering the state of today’s general population’s media interpretation, it is necessary. I think it was a little difficult to parse through reality in this work, but so far this blurring of lines between reality, imagination, and memory is a prominent feature of Yu’s work.
