Fever Dream by Samanta Schweblin

4.0

This short translated novel is one I simply couldn't put down. I essentially raced through it with fear and curiosity driving me forward.

This compact tale told by Samantha Schweblin's fresh Argentinian voice is a true work of supernatural horror.

Amanda is blind and helpless, lying in a hospital bed, recounting the events that led to her current predicament to the bodiless voice of David. Not her child but another woman's, Carla, who claims that in order to save David after he got sick she took him to the green house in town. And, although he survived, what emerged from that place wasn't her son. It was a monster. A monster that dug 28 graves in her garden.

The narration is at all times tense and the reader an eager detective trying to work out what David is, what happened to Amanda and where her missing daughter Nina has vanished to.

I can't wait to devour whatever comes next.
