Les Normaux by Janine Janssen
5.0
Incredibly adorable. In Les Normaux, we find ourselves in a magical version of Paris. It's a safe haven for magical creatures of all kinds.
Sebastien and Elia have a meet cute on Sebastiens first night in the city, and their paths keep crossing each other. They both take a fancy to each other, but they're both to insure of themselves to confess romantic interest to the other.
I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop as a friendship and also seeing their personalities and interactions with their other friends. Both Elia and Sebastien carry some emotional baggage with them connected to feeling pressure from their parents. The illustrations and the story felt incredibly cosy to me, and it only took me a couple of pages to fall in love with these characters. This story is a very, very, very slow burn. Which isn't something that I mind as it fits the overall vibe of people at the end of their 20s who might not have it all figured out - who they are and how to manage societal expectations.
