The Portal Prophecies: Frost Bitten
by C.A. King
Frost Bitten is the third book in the Portal Prophecies series by C.A. King. I was extremely excited to read the continuing adventures of Willow and her friends and this book did not disappoint. When we left off in the last book, Prince Lance was asking Willow for help in finding his sister, Sissy. This means also asking for the approval of William and Mike. Since all three men have their eyes on Willow, it makes for quite a show of manliness in the first part of the book, made all the more amusing because Willow had no clue that was why the guys were acting the way they had been. Willow has to make a decision but it could never be as simple as that.
Apart from the main story line, we spend some time with Jade in Pewterclaw. She was assigned to work with the mayor, Hilary, and had been witnessing a subtle change in her boss’s attitude towards the guardians. This could just be a politician trying to get re-elected to office and taking whatever stance will win her the most support, but I think Hilary had a much darker side that we haven’t seen yet and Jade is starting to uncover it bit by bit.
The journey to save Sissy coincides with another prophecy and like always this one can mean different things to different people. Usually the first situation the prophecy applies to is relatively straight forward but I am always surprised at how the author manages to incorporate seemingly unrelated things in the second half of the book into a new meaning. I always get a little excited when I uncover a bit that could fold into the prophecy.
The end of this book wasn’t as big of a cliffhanger as the past two have been and I’m a little thankful for that. However I am still extremely excited to read the next book.
