I've given this novel 5 stars because it's Dolly and it was wonderful and made me rip through it (which happens to me less & less)—but I do have some reservations about the characters and their development. I think she's so wonderful at creating depth with her characters (so much of their behaviour, thoughts, actions embodying what dolly's written in her non-fiction, they're like real people) yet there were a few things that seemed quite 'unlikely' that detracted somewhat overall from the novel. That said, the narrative arcs (and circles) and narration/perspectival shifts were smart and clever and enjoyable and so, five stars.
