It’s been a while since I’ve read a book in one sitting. After 65+ books my first 5 star from RD. I knew it had the potential and I’m so glad it met my expectations. A Villain romance unlike what I’m used to, but RD does GET it. Azar is not particularly cruel(which is one of my favorite characteristics of a villain), but he has done shitty things and has contempt for pretty much everyone which is fun to read. I loved the progression of his character. It was believable. From his meeting with Melina and being intrigued but still in control of himself to losing all of himself to her. YES.

Now this is RD so if you know her she writes cinnamon roll type heroes, always sweet and/or naive in their charm. Azar did possess an utter soft devotion to Melina, but she did a good job of keeping him relatively prickly towards everyone else. He was also very intelligent even when things were foreign to him he picked them up quickly. I loved how he kept saying he was not a good man and showing his selfishness or deceit. He wasn’t entirely unselfish when it came to Melina and I loved that he was willing to take her for himself. It was hot, especially because I’m not used to this type from RD. I hope she will write more villain romances in the future.

Melina was an amazing heroine, my favorite out of all RD’s books. There were so many details I loved about her. I loved that she’d been through things and how she dealt with it. I LOVED how unapologetically feminine she was! I never see this so every time she mentioned a pretty dress I was grinning. It’s just a vibe running around in couture gowns and it was great. I also loved that Azar gifted them to her and just his ‘let me take care of you villain vibe’ is IT. Azar messed up at the start, but once he fell for her man was Devoted and I loved it. I loved how Azar became the type to force her to rest, to put her first because she never did it herself. The romance progressed well and I’m pleasantly surprise how much there was. I thought at least a third would be devoted to plot, but it was pretty much their romance which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I will say the plot did suffer a bit, because I thought there would be more focus given that it’s been building through the whole series so that was a tad disappointing. I also hated
how they all lost their mind connection.
I will definitely be rereading and purchasing this series in paperback(slowly) as well because it’s so good I want it in my physical library too.
