I enjoyed the characters and book, excluding hearing the horrific instances of cruelty perpetrated by slave owners, their wives (the thieves) and others.

Narrated by some well known voices, the book is told from the POV of the stolen; William, Cato, Margaret, and Pandora. Afraid to believe and love after all they've lost, a traveling pastor comes for a visit and tells them about freedom and how to get there.

This was like watching the TV show Underground and had some of the fantasy elements of The Water Dancer.
