Ball Don't Lie by Matt de la Peña

3.0

Overall, I thought this book was just okay. While there were some interesting and important conversations being had in the book, I felt that they were mostly overshadowed by the more mundane moments Sticky goes through and were not emphasized as much as I would have liked. It took a bit for the book to get interesting as well.

One of the biggest reasons for the rating was the fact that an important plot point (no spoilers) was dropped. It almost made me wonder why it was even mentioned and even made to be a big deal when it was not going to be revisited.

Is this a book I would recommend to someone? Not particularly, unless they were a huge basketball fanatic. Would I go out of my way to discourage someone from reading it? No, because I think this is a book that would find its audience.
