Y'all. This book. This freaking book.

This is a middle-grade historical fantasy and it is like nothing I've ever read, and yet at the same time, it feels so familiar, like cracking open a childhood favorite. However, don't let that fool you. This book is dark.

It follows three kids over the span of nine years: Fredrich in 1933, Mike in 1935, and Ivy in 1942, all three of them connected to a magical harmonica with a bright red M carved onto it. This book handled the dark subject matter very well without making it too dark. And the characters. The characters were just so relatable and Ryan just made you fall in love with all three of them.

This book is very long, but it is very good, and if it sounds interesting to you, read it.
