Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan
4.0
A strong 3.5, with the narrator doing a good enough job to push this up to 4.
Basically Ready Player One for people who like books, including a manic pixie dream girl whose only personality trait is her job, a rich best friend whose only personality trait is his job, and maybe the most boring protagonist I've read in years. Could have been my favorite book in...maybe 2009? 2010?
It's a cozy, light read though and I liked it more than I expected. It lost me a bit towards the latter half but the opening and the last chapter or so are good enough to carry it, and the narrator of the audiobook really nailed the performance.
