All's Fair in Love and War by Virginia Heath
2.0
Oh my god, I can't believe I stuck with it until the very end. What a terribly boring book! More than the first half is spent simply telling the story of the children and how she deals with them - I know more about victorian lesson plans than I ever wanted to. Maybe it's the former teacher in me but this gave me PTSD even if the children weren't nearly as bad as some of the ones I've taught. The romance felt slow and underdeveloped, and after so much period appropriate narrative the (albeit short and lacking) spice felt odd and misplaced. His character development happens in the last chapter and just because he has two conversations with women who are not the protagonist.
I wanted so much more out of this book, sorry.
