Emerson and Amos, who have been friends for over thirty years, bring their families together for a weekend upstate to celebrate Emerson's 52nd birthday. A horrific, life altering betrayal is committed and the inner thoughts and emotions play out of all involved.

I found it to be well written and while slightly confusing at first with the time jumps and tangents, it eventually settles into the context. The adult characters are deeply unlikeable and I get the negative reviews as it is dark/bleak. But it makes you think and opens topics of discussion on several issues.
