Strangers in Their Own Land: Anger and Mourning on the American Right
by Arlie Russell Hochschild
The stories and profiles in this book were interesting enough, but it didn't ultimately explain very much. Hochschild's interviews led her to what she calls the subjects' "deep stories," but they weren't all that deep. She seemed to be transcribing and consolidating what they said than providing any insight into it, and I found I was always left with more questions than answers. Not a bad book, but it doesn't blow the lid off of the "paradox" of right wing voters.
