El Diablo II by M. Robinson

2.0

“I’ll kill for you. I’ll die for you. But don’t think for one fucking second that I’ll protect you…from me.”

El Diablo is one of my favorite books. I love Alejandro and Lexi so my expectations were many for this book and his son’s story.

Cruz loves his dad and wants nothing more than to be like his father even though he doesn’t have all details of who is his father. Sienna is the mafia princess, protected from the world and hates that life after losing her mother. She wants to leave all behind, but then she meets Cruz and that’s it. He wants her, he will have her.

Cruz is all softie. He’s an innocent soft-hearted guy until his sister is taken under his nose. He blames himself, his father blames him and Sienna hates him because he’s what she hates the most on a guy or at least she thinks he is. Yeah, she’s judgmental. Cruz later changes and turns into his father: El Diablo.

I enjoyed this book. It was a good read but not the best. Let me explain:

Adriana is taken and I thought the tension would be a lot. Turns out that her disappearance is put behind over Cruz and Sienna story. I was even starting to wonder: are they even doing anything to get her?

And then, when I thought Cruz and Sienna as couple was going to pick up, we are sent to the other part of plot: Adriana’s kidnapping. And we basically say bye to their time together.

You see, I wished it was all divided and blended equally.

I wished there was more of Cruz and Sienna. They spend most of the time apart and when they aren’t apart, they’re on each other’s throats. And trust me… they fight a lot. They can’t see each other without fighting, without Sienna being disrespectful to him. Give an award to Cruz for being so patient, please. Sienna sees him as the enemy which made me feel bad for Cruz because he was cruel but not to her. He was in the situation because he had to but he was willing to make it work while Sienna was willing to insult him and judge him based on... mafia’s lifestyle? She could never or try to see Cruz for what he was, his qualities.

And when the situation with Adriana finally ended, I thought they would finally have their time until I realized the book was ending.

So yeah, it’s hard to connect them as characters and as couple. We don’t see them growing in love towards each of other, we don’t see them build a relationship. They aren’t even friends in any point until they confess their love. While Cruz knows all about her , she knows nothing about him because she doesn’t try and suddenly she’s in love. There was a big piece missing to convince us they’re in love.

Is it a bad book? No. Will I reread it? Probably not. Was justice made for Diablo’s son? Yes and No. Yes because he’s Diablo and made justice to his fame and no because both main characters deserved more development.
