The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith

3.0

I was thoroughly influenced by Brene Brown's Audible ad on her podcast & chose the first in the series she talks about - The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith aka JK Rowling. Cormoran Strike is a private investigator who is barely making ends meet when he gets hired by the brother of a famous supermodel who wants to prove she didn't commit suicide.⁣

It's a solid mystery, and nice on audio! Cormoran is full of quirks & I liked the dynamic that started to form between him and his secretary who started working for him in this book. I didn't find it addicting - I'm not dying to know what happens in the next book because this one didn't tease what's coming next very hard, but I do plan on picking up the 2nd in the next few months.

Some of the language is a little gruff - it didn't pull me out of the story but I noted it. If you're sensitive to that, it's probably not for you. Also - it doesn't compare to Harry Potter in any way, going in thinking it will would leave you disappointed.
