Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer

3.0

I like Krakauer. I do. I like the way he writes, the obvious passion he has for what he's talking about.

But unlike in his previous work that I've read, Into the Wild, this book is filled with so many side stories and characters that it's hard to keep track of everything.

Some is always an Uncle, or a Prophet, and they're all David or John or some other generic name. Things happened too closely in the 1860-1880s for me to remember.

It was just a lot.

I'm impressed by everything Krakauer managed to research and condense for the reader. I praise him for that.

But having to read through it all and make sense of it? Not particularly fun.

Still, though. Very interesting read.
