We Unleash the Merciless Storm
by Tehlor Kay Mejia
We Unleash the Merciless Storm picks up where We Set the Dark on Fire leaves off, but this time from Carmen’s point of view (which I loved). Dani seemed to be more logic-based whereas Carmen seemed to be more emotion-based. I have a suspicion that a lot of readers will relate to one more than the other, but I really loved getting to hear both perspectives and the ways that they balanced each other out.
I could see each of the main characters fighting to grow and develop into who they really are and what they really care about. I think it’s about the struggle to be open to things that scare us, whether revolution or relationships...and I loved that this book dealt with the fact that it’s not always easy. Sometimes there’s a cost. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth it.
Overall, WUTMS was a fast-paced and twisty ride, and a really great way to wrap up this duology!
4.5 stars for me
