I fell in love with Brooke Montgomery's small town, cowboy romances with her Sugarland Creek series & that love continues with the spinoff series, Willow Branch Mountain. One thing I love about Brooke's stories is that they are on the taboo side & this one is no different.
This is about Warren Langston & Maisie Callaway, childhood sweethearts who marry young, but life got in the way. Maisie goes on to pursue her dreams in NYC, asking for a divorce that Warren refuses for 7 years. Now she's back, newly engaged & needs him to sign the papers so they can both move on. Warren still holds out hope that Maisie will come home & will only give her a divorce if she goes on 7 dates with him so he can prove that they are meant to be.
This is very much like a spicy Sweet Home Alabama. There is such great tension & angst between the two MCs. I love their rich backstory & the drama. Maisie's parents & her fiancΓ© bring some villain aspects to this story & I found myself just rooting for Maisie & Warren's second chance the entire time. Warren is such a swoony, lovestruck MMC. He has never moved on from Maisie, holding out hope she'd come home, even after all these years. I also loved Maisie's growth - the way she finally sticks up for what she wants in her life.
This is such a great start to this new series - we get to meet all the Langstons, who this series revolves around. There is a nice setup to Book 2 that has me already hooked. And if you love audiobooks, I highly recommend listening to this one. All Brooke's audiobooks are excellent, but here we have dual narration by Aiden Snow & Savannah Peachwood, who completely bring this story to life.
