Alexei by Eva Winners

4.0

POV: First person / Dual
Genre: Mafia / Age Gap / Forced Proximity/ Opposites attract / Tragic Past

I’ve been intrigued by the broody character of Alexei ever since he was first introduced in The Den of Sin (Vasili & Isabella’s story) and his story did not disappoint.

First off, Alexei, my goodness what he endured in the past brought me to tears. His story brought context to his closed off, brooding and tortured character, it also enlightened to his need to protect, and in Auroras case, possess.

Alexei at first glance appears to be a violent anti hero, but beneath the surface are scars and memories he can’t escape, yet give him the strength to carry on and go to great lengths to correct his mistakes and keep his promises. Aurora, in contrast to Alexei’s darkness, is a shining light that gives him purpose and belonging.

Aurora herself is the daughter of a senator, yet despite the wealth of her family, works in the public domain as an FBI agent. She’s smart, strong and sassy, but she has her own childhood trauma, that fuels her search for the truth and closure.

Alexei and Aurora meet when a common goal brings them together, their joint search to end the heinous acts of a mutual nemesis, force them together and when in such close proximity their chemistry ignites. But they both have secrets, secrets that hold promise to tear them apart.

Alexei is a love story, but it was also so much more, it was a story about guilt and redemption, pain and passion, grief and justice. Alexei was most definitely the darkest of the Belles & Mobsters series so far, it broke my heart, kept me on my toes with its twists and turns, and gave me a sense wholeness at the end.

I’m so excited to see where the Belles & Mobsters series goes next, and how, it interconnects with Eva’s other upcoming projects.
