Cult of the Ibis by Daria Tessler

4.0

After reading Daria Tessler’s occult psychedelia mini-comics, I wasn’t sure how her work would translate to a longer, more plot-driven format. I needn’t have worried. Cult of the Ibis is something of a blend of Jim Woodring’s oddball “silent” comics and the zany criminal mayhem of A. Degen’s Mindhunters comics, but also something completely different and wonderful.

Cult of the Ibis follows the events and aftermath of a bank heist. The getaway driver is the only survivor after the robbery goes very wrong. The driver’s interest in amateur alchemy blends with the paranoia of their being pursued by a crime boss, leading them into an ever deeper and stranger underworld.
