The Flatshare by Beth O'Leary
2.0

the flatshare by beth o’leary was a read that i found to be a tad underwhelming. the entire premise of this novel, which is two individuals not knowing each other but still sharing a flat together and ultimately falling in love is what originally drew me in. however, i struggled to keep picking this read up as i couldn’t immerse myself in this story. it felt so subdued and lacked any spark. of course, a slow burn can make for a great read, however, tiffy and leon’s seemed to drag on a bit too long and had too strong of a focus on physical. the side plots, which centered around their work and their own personal struggles outside of their relationship and touched on important aspects such as grief, abuse, etc. didn’t leave me feeling satiated. i would’ve enjoyed seeing them connect more on an emotional level. i also struggled with the creative choice o’leary made when using a different writing style for leon versus tiffy, as it made for a choppy read. i’m still eager to check out the show and see how it was portrayed on screen.
