Ghostly Game by Christine Feehan

3.0

Rory Chappel has traveled from place to place for most of her adult life, but San Francisco has offered things she has always hoped for: a nice place to live, a good job, and trustworthy friends. After meeting Gideon Carpenter, she thinks she may have found the love of her life, but he is keeping secrets and there are things about her past that she isn't ready to reveal. Gideon believes that Rory is the other half of his mated pair that Dr. Whitney set up for each of his GhostWalkers, but even though he trusts her, Gideon knows that Whitney may have programmed her as a weapon, and he can't risk exposing her to his family until he knows more about her.

Ghostly Game is a good addition to the GhostWalker series. Even though Dr. Whitney is always in the background of these stories, this one mostly revolves around dangers involving Rory and her friends. The shooting of a police officer and shady characters living in their apartment complex are the main problems in this novel. While the GhostWalkers and their powers play a part in the story, the main conflict is more traditional for romantic suspense. Descriptions of the city of San Francisco are strengths of this story, but deeper character development could have made more of an impact. Also many ideas are repeated throughout the narrative that focuses on telling vs. showing. Overall, Ghostly Game is a light, enjoyable read but doesn't add anything new to the GhostWalker series.
