Wow! What a ride we go on in this book!
Two men think of themselves as being forever alone, unable to trust or love another considering their line of work but they never counted on meeting each other and the way that they are constantly drawn back for more, whether it's their intense physical attraction, sharp barbs traded or the thrill of going up against someone so skilled at their job.
Madigan was a side character in book one of this series and I found quite intriguing with then way he held himself separate and above the others. Now we get a closer look at him and yes, he has that darker side that I think is necessary to be an assassin but equally, he wants the connection he shares with Azrael. Azrael is very similar to Madigan in how he thinks of others but when he sneaks one over Madigan at a job, there follows a constant battle of wills and one-upmanship. Its entertaining/annoying for both men but a relationship builds between them, seemingly without their knowledge.
Trust, which is so hard to come by in their line of work, is often tested and s couple of times to the limit but there is also something undeniable there and that's what constantly brings them back together. They are hot, slightly crazy and exceedingly good at their jobs. Even when a case goes ever so slightly wrong, the continue forward, initially for themselves but eventually for both of them.
Absolutely loved this story and the relationship that builds between the MC's. There is a brilliant level of snark, banter and heat that builds up as the story continues. Definitely a recommended read and it's possible to read as a stand alone but I recommend reading in order as you get to know the characters, their relationships and history between them all.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
