Lessons in Revenge by Natalia Lourose
4.0

This book was my first read of the author and thanks to my friend Bee for urging me to read it and for putting up with my reactions.

Valerie's sole desire was to seek retribution for her father's murder and to exact revenge on those who had made her life unbearable since his death. She was determined to kill Nicolai, so she ventured to his casino and attempted to pull the trigger before him. Unfortunately, her aim was off, resulting in dire consequences.

Nicolai presented her with an ultimatum: spend a year with him, and he would train her in the art of revenge, enabling her to kill his father for ordering to kill her father. Alternatively, if she declined, Nic would end her life immediately. Knowing she was striking a deal with the devil, Valerie reluctantly agreed to spend a year under his thumb.

Little did she realize that by accepting this proposition, she had also consented to fulfill any and all of his demands, at any time of day, whether they involved brutal lessons or moments of pleasure. Valerie endeavored not to shatter any further than she already had. She encountered Nic's brother, Leo, who did his best to care for and shield her from Nic's harsh teachings and punishments.

I have never read a story quite like this before, and it was exceptionally well-written. The dynamic between the Colombo brothers created an intense tension that Valerie couldn't ignore. Nic's teachings blend punishment and pleasure, causing Valerie to develop strong feelings of desire and need. Nic embodies the essence of a devil, exerting control and dominance, while Leo is portrayed as an angel who truly understands Valerie and takes care of her.

The unexpected plot twists that unfolded in the final chapters caught me completely off guard, leaving me with a feeling of disbelief. I found great satisfaction in the plot, as it revolved around a girl seeking vengeance for her father's murder. She never anticipated the unforeseen events that would transpire, forcing her to confront her life choices and struggles.

I am eagerly awaiting the sequel because the cliffhanger at the end of the first book was absolutely mind-boggling.
