This book was such a disappointment considering everything I’ve ever heard about it has only been good things. To be fair it is YA and I feel like I would have enjoyed it in middle school but not at 21 years old. The world building felt half hearted at best, all of the characters seemed underdeveloped and especially will and jem felt like the author was trying to make them not be 1 dimensional but ultimately fell short. The plot was completely transparent (I guessed the “plot twist” that happened at the end about 40% into the book). Also I HATE self pitying characters who somehow always make it about themselves in conversations and that describes almost every character in this book. In addition, Will is not a good person? He’s supposed to be the main love interest with a dark and mysterious past but it kind of just comes across that he’s a dick? Like the things he said at the end of the book are inexcusable even if he is hiding some dark traumatic past that effects the way he acts. And also on the topic of romance, him and Tessa are obviously being set up as lovers but the have no chemistry? They’ve known each other for what two weeks in the book and have a handful of mediocre conversations And Tessa loves him? Come on girl. Despite this it was very easy to get through and somewhat entertaining with a nice cliff hanger at the end.
