The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
5.0

Now that I’ve returned to the novel, I see all the foreshadowing and the composition of it all so much more elegantly. Achilles’s character is consistent, even in his descent. Still one of the most if not the most passionate stories of love that I have ever read, though I will say that it is not quite as poetic as I remembered. More than that, I applaud the depiction of Achilles, both man and child, charismatic yet distant, and impossibly beautiful. It is impossible to doubt that Patroclus is the only thing he has ever loved.

Ok now time for the incoherent spiel Achilles best boyfriend ever because he don’t give a fuck okay??? He don’t give a fuck about his daddy his mummy Chiron the other kings he just cares about Patroclus ,,, and loves Patroclus even though everyone wants him not to !! He loves Patroclus even when no one else thinks he should (even Patroclus himself) and loves Patroclus more than anything ! Even his reputation is nothing in the end compared to avenging Patroclus, hanging on to his corpse, etc. i think that’s one of my fave parts about Achilles — his complete disregard for everyone else but himself and the things he cares about, which sounds awful but idk I quite like it. Along with his innocence of character sigh it’s just a very good personality.
