Waiting for Summer's Return by Kim Vogel Sawyer

5.0

What a wonderful book! Not only was the story great but there were lots of lessons learned in this one. The main character's name is Summer. She finds herself totally alone in Kansas after typhoid kills her husband and four children. Heartbroken and lacking family love and support in her hometown of Boston, Summer decides to stay where her family is buried. The town is a German Mennonite community, which fear outsiders. One man offers her food and shelter in exchange for her teaching his son who has been injured in an accident. I was glad that the couple went from being friends to very slowly recognizing that they loved each other. Too many books rush up to that moment. This seems very realistic.
