Home Is Where You Are by Melissa Grace

4.0

“What if I do this? What if I go all in, and it doesn’t work out?”
“What if it does?”

Liv and Jax, both musicians in their own right, meet one night at a concert with instant attraction. Home is Where You Are tells their story as they get to know each other and learn how to work through that previous life experience they both bring to the table as well as how the world thinks they should be, whether together or apart.

This was such a sweet read! Melissa Grace jumped right in and introduced us to not only a sweet new couple, but also their whole group of found family and I completely fell in love. Grace managed to give justice to real topics (like infertility, people without housing, foster care and emotional abuse) while still keeping the story in the realm of a light romcom. The story is told in the dual POV of Liv and Jax and I felt that their characters were well balanced throughout.
Now that I’ve spent some time with the rest of the band, I am really looking forward to more of the series so that we can hear about their HEAs as well.

Though it’s hard to choose, brevity tends to be best, so here’s one thing I adored and one thing I didn’t.

✔️ I adored the donut jokes.
I love donuts and am always here for a pun so honestly, I chuckled with each one.

✖️ I wasn’t fond of the immediacy of the relationship.
It just happened so quickly with no prelude. This isn’t a problem with the book itself or the writing, simply that I prefer some more build up.

TW⚠️ infertility, miscarriage mentioned

☕Could be your cup of tea if you like:
→age gaps
→rockstar trope
→dual POV
→falling in love quickly

Quotes that stuck:

“I think you can be grateful for your success without being in love with every aspect of it.”

“Wait, what?” Jax looked over at me, confused. “I thought everyone liked donuts.”

“We don’t get to choose when we meet the right person, babe. Sometimes it happens when we least expect it.”

“Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.” –Dolly Parton

“Because how I felt about him changed how I felt about me.”

“The thing I remember being so painful about grief was that for so long, it felt like my entire world stopped, but everyone around me kept going on as though nothing even happened. Holidays still came and went, and the days passed like normal when it was anything but.”

“There are a million ways to make a family. There are a million ways to make a home.”

“No matter what you do, you’ll never have to do it alone.”
