People told me this book was going to change the way I viewed the world. That didn't happen for me. It's a great novel and it definitely deserves all of the praise that it gets for a variety of other reasons. The fact that it was written in the early 1930s and is so prophetic is extraordinarily admirable. It challenges what society does and how people think. But for me, personally, it didn't move me to re-evaluate the world. Perhaps that's because I already have a pretty clear definition of how I view the world; maybe if I would have read this when I was younger, I could say something different. In terms of the writing, I thought it was good but not great. I constantly felt like I was an outsider looking in to the characters rather than actually being in the novel, which frustrates me as a reader. The words didn't pull me in and make me feel like I was with the characters in their experiences.

At the end of the day, I'm going to remain in the 1984 camp. I think it's a better novel. Sorry, Brave New World fans.
