sweet surrender
by K. Bromberg
The second book in the Backstage series and it’s the turn of bad boy drummer Jace Gizmodo to discover the love of a good woman. Jace was troubled. He’d had a bad childhood, abandoned by his father and older brother, left to look after his increasingly mentally unstable mother and now as an adult it was like he took delight in living up to the poor impression everyone had of him especially his lawyer brother. The only people he considered family were his fellow band members and when his actions had ramifications that could affect their plans for a world tour he was forced into taking his brother’s advice to clean up his image. The plan – marriage but there was no way he was letting him find a woman to act the part of Mrs Gizz, after what he’d overheard in the coffee shop, he had the perfect woman in mind to be his bride.
A marriage of convenience between two complete opposites. Hendrix was a girl who knew what she wanted but was willing to work for it. On the verge of losing everything Jace’s proposition was a life saver for her dream of cookie stardom but sometimes it was like she was the first person to look and really see him and not the star although given she didn’t recognise him but as Jace would say ‘no one ever notices the drummer.’ Jace was a bit of a tragic figure who tugged my heartstrings. He’d had to grow up too quickly, abandoned by the father who should’ve cared for him and forced take responsibility for a mother whose grip on reality lessened as time went on but underneath his bad boy persona he was surprisingly sweet and desperate to be loved as Hendrix found out and I loved their dialogue and texting as their relationship developed. Told from dual points of view their story was a wonderful blend of genuine heart and emotion as it tackles some challenging issues of guilt and the effects of having to deal with mental illness. If you’re a fan of rockstar, forced proximity romances, you won’t want to miss Sweet Surrender. Loaded with heat, humour, and heart, and a happily ever after that will leave you breathless, I think this just may be my favourite book to date from this author.
