It’s so interesting to me how consistently Richard is the bystander. There are so many scenes of other characters just narrating their own version of events to him and he just absorbs these different versions, occasionally attempting to interfere or figure things out for himself. His drug addled, depressive, and sleep deprived state combined with the different versions of events makes it so unclear what is really going on that I felt myself miserably floating through this book along with him in a haze of confusion.
