read_me_seymour 's review for:
One Hundred Years of Solitude
by Gabriel García Márquez
I didn't get it. I kept reading.
Nope. Still didn't get it. Couldn't keep track of the characters. Hated the sexism. I kept reading.
And then one night, three quarters of the way through this book that took me over a year to get all the way through...
"yellow butterflies".
And then I got it. And by the last page, this was the single most beautiful reading experience I have ever had.
When I read it again, it will be another experience entirely.
But those yellow butterflies... the fucking genius that was (may he rest in peace) Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
**sigh**
Read the whole thing cover to cover. Take your time. Sit with it. Let the images and the magical realism marinate. Brilliant.
