Ian McEwan does not disappoint. This was in his usual style...one event has long-term and massive implications for the lives of some group of people, only here it's a failed sexual encounter. He does a great job describing how very difficult communication can become, even between two people who clearly love each other, and how that inability to communicate can be so destructive.
