The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi
5.0
This book is quite something. It made me think of Gibson's cyberpunk, though I wasn't first quite sure why, the parallels weren't that obvious. But it does depict varied, broken people in a bleak future of humankind's own making. I guess that's where the feeling began. And judging by the comments here, I see I'm not the only one reminded of Gibson.
The Phillipinian setting is also great and decidedly not something I find in my sci-fi every day. Recommended to just about everyone.
