"I have always been a sort of archivist, glutting myself on what has been left behind."
"There will always be someone to make an account of your tragedy, even if it is just yourself in the end, recording, noting, the crimes against your person, the various ways you have been done or undone."
What a gorgeously-written but exceedingly strange little book. The writing was so lush and so visceral, and reading this felt like a fever dream. Who knew a mass poisoning could be so horny?
The theme of (unreliable, mis-remembered) memory was really interesting, and if I cared a little more about the characters and was a little less disturbed by the plot, I probably would have wanted to go back to trace it through the earlier chapters. Something to pay attention to if you haven't read it yet.
