David, a young boy, is mourning his mother’s death and his whole world changing with his father’s new wife and new brother arriving. He find solace in his books and the fairytales within. Set in WW2 England, David finds himself in a fantasy world learning the (sometimes harsh) realities of the characters and happily ever after stories he has grown so fond of.
This book is very creative but probably not my genre - its a little too much fantasy for me, but I understand why it’s popular.
