Never Let You Go
by Chevy Stevens
I had so much hope. But I knew who the “bad guy” was before Chapter 5. Still, the story was okay 80% of the time and the protagonist was somewhat interesting. Here’s the thing though...whatever you do, DO NOT get the audiobook version of this book. Do yourself a favor and opt for print. There are 2 narrators in the audiobook and one of them, Caitlin Davies, almost killed me. How, you ask? Allow me to enlighten you!
Cast your mind back to the last time you watched Saturday Night Live. Got that in your mind’s eye? Okay. Now think about the Weekend Update skit that’s on SNL every week. Are you there? Good. Now...imagine Vanessa Bayer appearing as a guest on Weekend Update, playing the character Laura Parsons...the precocious, teen who blurts out whatever inappropriate thing is on her mind...in that HORRIBLE cadence!!! Now imagine hearing that ridiculous pacing and emphasis throughout the entire book! Oy vey! I thought I was going to lose my everlovin’ mind!
Don’t do it. Trust me. Or you’ll find yourself wishing that the character Davies reads would die a horrible death just to save your sanity.
