Wayyyy too many sex scenes. Romantasy with mild fantasy. Barely any plot. So gross and the pining of this relationship ruins the storyline. Xaden should have died or disappeared at the end of the last book as he just brings this one down the entire time.
The humour that was great in the first book just reads as lazy writing in this one. Instead of actually describing Xaden as brooding, Yarros just has characters make lame quips about him being brooding over and over and over again. And instead of their relationship being strong and built on trust, they both act like Dain in the first book. Such a lame regression.

An entirely hetero book despite Riddic’s best bi jokes. But you can’t just have a few throw away gay comments and SIX hetero sex scenes with the same couple. Heaton, the non-binary character was only mentioned once. Not good allyship.
The subplots are not existent. Despite how massive this book is, the side characters don’t get their own arcs or plots or really any page time either. Yarros’ characters are incredibly one-dimensional in this book with only the main couple’s “love” being of importance, despite all evidence to the contrary. It’s about as believable as Violet being “smart” when she makes dumb decisions after dumb decisions and doesn’t see the obvious things. Please use accurate descriptions for your characters instead of what you want to be true for them.
At least this book seemed edited, unless that was the narrators covering for the rushed publication missing errors.
Serves me right for reading a popular book.
