The Fall of Babel by Josiah Bancroft
4.0

"The human race will march into the darkness singing songs and telling stories because that is who we are and what we do."

I'm honestly not sure why people seem to dislike the ending of this book (and series) so much. I won't spoil it here, but I wonder if it's because they feel as duped as the characters were? When I realized the true plot, I wanted to laugh, I admit. But because it was clever, not because it was bad.

In any case, this series has been one of the best I've ever read. Could the plot have been a tad tighter at times? Certainly. But all in all, that's my only complaint. I enjoyed every page of this story. It has entertained me thoroughly with its uniqueness and wit, and I'm grateful to have discovered it years ago and finally committed to reading it. I'd recommend this series for anyone who enjoys a science fiction-flavored adventure with sharp-witted characters and insightful observations about reality sprinkled throughout.
