Jack
by Marilynne Robinson
Beautiful prose, almost meditative, but the characters and storyline did little for me. Jack is a self-described bum, a liar, a thief, an easy target to take advantage of. He falls in love with Della, a young black, school teacher from a good, upstanding Christian family, forbidden, illegal relationship in the 1940-50’s. Having read the previous books in this series, I know something of their lives, but this prequel didn’t give me much insight.
