How is this book not required reading for everyone? It's an absolutely gutting tale of the horror of slavery from a first person view point. And the thing that I'm still trying to wrap my head around is how Solomon Northup can manage to express such gratitude and compassion while being treated in the most inhumane of ways. Bless the human spirit and it's resiliency!
