Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

It took me a year to finish this book. The whole 7 months of Covid left my mental health in shambles which ended up causing one of the worst slumps I’ve ever had. BUT it’s all okay thankfully.

First thing I’m gonna say is that I’ve started this series in 2017 when I was in 9th grade, now I’m a freshman in university. This series was my gateway and escape when life was suffocating and my thoughts were dark. It was a roller coaster of of emotions it left me happy, sad, angry, frustrated and joyful you name it. But now that I’ve finally finished it (ngl I was putting it off bc I was scared of letting go) I don’t feel as sad as I thought I’d be.
Aelin will forever be one of my all time favorite characters she taught me how to fight for yourself and the people you loved, how to still cling to that sliver of hope when all felt lost. Aelin and her court are like a family to me they feel so real and alive.

This series is full of imperfections just like any but I still love it with all my heart. It feels so surreal that they’re now living their lives happily, these books deliver a very important message, no matter what life throws at you, how bleak life seems there’s always hope and this is one of my favorite quotes that resonated with me.

“What if we go on,” he said, “only to more pain and despair? What if we go on, only to find a horrible end waiting for us?” Aelin looked northward, as if she could see all the way to Terrasen. “Then it is not the end.”
