The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
5.0

I really liked this one! I love a good intergenerational diaspora story and this one really hit. The details of the mother-daughter relationships and the way the stories and the writing intersected to illuminate all the types of relationships and emotions just worked. The descriptive writing was also both vibrant and interesting. And each individual story, especially those of the mothers, was captivating, while fitting together into the whole thematic narrative. (although I would've liked more on the friendship between the Joy Luck Club members themselves) I definitely did cry by the end of the book because I got so invested. In sum: extremely good!
