I somehow missed this one when I read most of the Discworld novels more than 15 years ago. I'm glad I finally got around to it and absolutely loved it. Pratchett manages to comment on real issues through a fantasy mirror and a great mix of funny and profound parts. As someone who has never been religious I thought this was great commentary that did not feel mocking. It was much more about the structures of religion than about belief itself. But even apart from the prevailing theme, this was a great story with many interesting characters. One thing that irked me: somehow there wasn't a single female character, which is especially odd since I know that Pratchett can write phenomenal female characters. That was a bit weird.
