The Exiles
by Christina Baker Kline
I learned a lot -- the book is clearly well researched -- but the connection between the two main female characters felt forced. The ending, too neatly tied up, seemed false and rushed: where does Mathinna end up? is Ruby really able to gain access to Whitstone's house? No more about Dunne's relationship with Hazel? I'm okay with ambiguous endings, but this one had parts that were too tidy and too askew.
I loved Orphan Train; this one pales in comparison.
