Hello Fake Boyfriend was a MAJOR difference from Hello Single Dad. Which is a good thing when you think about it because you don't want every single book in the series to feel the same. Not only did the spice level went up a notch in this book, so did the 180 degree personality in characters. Mara - the female lead in this book - is no Birde.

Mara is a fire cracker and will say her mind without a second thought (until there are consequenses involved). And I will say that I was mainly annoyed with her for 92% of the book. The other 8% that I loved was when she realized that she can have her HEA. In this book, I mainly sided with the main male lead, Jonas.

Jonas was considerate, communicative, and (in my opinion,) affirmative with Mara's thoughts and even made a lot of sacrifices for her. But when he questions her impulsive decisions, she either cheats on him, gaslights/combats him, says he's being unsupportive, and the cherry on top... she keeps saying she's not the girl Jonas needs in his life. My goodness gracious I was not a fan of hers for several chapters.

In my eyes, Jonas did his best compared to what the other characters think. But if course, he's the one who apologies the most. Now I do know that Mara had a hard childhood and wants to follow her dreams and aspirations, but it should've included Jonas too, which made him seem like more of an after-thought. I think that Jonas did deserve more, but I also think that Mara should've given him more credit in the story. Sure, they get together in the end, but this story almost made it to the 3 Star mark had it not been Jonas' ABOVE AND BEYOND generosity and care for Mara. He's such a gentleman and I love him to death!

Edit: after continuously thinking it over today… I thin in giving the book a 3.25 star rating instead. There are moments that I can’t shake off that makes Jonas seem like he’s the one compromising the most while Mara is complaining. It’s all for the sake of the plot and HEA yes… but I can’t help to feel that Jonas had gotten the shorter end of the stick at the end of this.

They’re planning a wedding and a future together sure… but he quit his job, he decided to not have kids since Mara doesn’t want children, and took Mara back several times as she’s cheated, disregarded, and ultimately seemed to not care about anyone else but herself. Which again, I understand the hurt she’s had… it just made her a borderline unlikable character. Which shows that not everyone is perfect. If it were, then the endings would all be the same.
