Is this the same series I started?? This book was SO different from the first one, and much improved. The pacing, characters, tone, it had me coming back for more chapter, after chapter. I loved the backwards time jumps with Serce and Wolf, seeing how the Heart Kingdom truly began to fall apart nearly 300 years before was a really nice touch in-between the present time chapters. There are only a few “high stakes action” scenes, but there is a lot of planning/scheming, character growth, and plot being revealed which I imagine is setting up the next two books. Also the side characters in this were really interesting, I hope we get more of them in book 3.
