Our Little Secret by Roz Nay

4.0

Our Little Secret by Roz Nay is a story about first loves. HP and Angela met in high school and became best friends. The summer after high school graduation, they started dating and spent all their time together. When summer comes to an end, Angela leaves for college in England while HP stays behind in Vermont.

Present day, Angela is in the police station being questioned about the disappearance of Saskia- HP's wife. Angela denies any involvement in Saskia's disappearance and tells the detective if he wants to hear her story, she'll have to start at the beginning.

This book was a fast, easy read with a unique story line. This was one of those books that you can't stop reading, but at the same time you don't want the book to end.

Here's my favorite excerpts.

His parents rarely shut the door and never locked it. "If anything's coming for us," HP's dad used to say, "it'll come just as good through a window."

"Why didn't you guys move?"
"Because pain isn't in houses." He swallowed hard. "And when something like that happens, it ties you to the house. It's like a scar you grow into. I can't explain it."

"For what? To 'find ourselves'? Like I said, Little John, I'll be me wherever I go."

I learned, right there in the grass, that what you see each day is entirely your own invention. I found out that night that I could alter what's in front of me- I could literally write the sky.

He was a rarity, a resilient light, and with a world full of choices surrounding him, he continued to choose me.
